Federal judge blocks Gov. Cooper’s restrictions on churches

A federal judge has blocked Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order restricting religious services.

“There is no pandemic exception to the Constitution of the United States or the Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment,” Judge James C. Denver wrote.

Two North Carolina churches and the Christian non-profit Return America had sued Gov. Cooper, saying his executive orders had unfairly restricted religious gatherings more than secular organizations.
